BGM is seeking bright, motivated, and service-minded accounting students for our Tax Season Internship Program. We believe that internships during our peak season provide the most meaningful work experience, so our 2024 Internship Program will run from January 2024 through mid April 2024.

Our Internship Program is designed for you to assist and provide audit and tax services to clients, with a primary focus on gaining exposure to a particular industry. Throughout your internship, you will be partnered with team members in varying roles of the Firm to help foster your success, ensure your assimilation into the Firm, and provide you with ongoing feedback on your job performance.

As an Intern, you will:

Assist with the detail work of audits, reviews, compilations, and other assurance services for clients;
Collect and analyze data to detect deficient controls, duplicated efforts, fraud, or non-compliance with laws, regulations, and management policies;
Support multiple client engagements on time and within budget, identifying issues and communicating progress and audit results to supervisors;
Prepare tax returns and reviews with the tax team;
Complete tax related research and special projects as needed;
Gain experience, exposure, and knowledge in one or more industries;
Expand industry knowledge through greater exposure to peers, internal experts, clients, regular self-study, and formal training opportunities.

Based on performance, career goals, and business conditions, you could walk away with a full-time job offer.

Residing in the Twin Cities Metro Area during the Internship

Position Description:

Join us in June 2024 (specific date TBD) for our Summer Experience Program! BGM’s Summer Experience Program is a local leadership program designed for students who have not yet been through the internship recruiting process, have approximately two years remaining of their education, and will graduate with their CPA eligibility.

This 1 day program gives you the chance to explore your interests in a career in public accounting: audit, tax or advisory. The Summer Experience program not only gives you insight into the culture and career opportunities at BGM but will provide you with a forum to showcase your strengths and abilities through networking and team building activities.

You can also expect to gain exposure to firm clients while participating in a job shadowing experience, contact with firm leadership, access to developmental resources, and network with BGM professionals and other top candidates in your field. This program is intended to be informative and FUN!

Most importantly, you’ll receive answers to your questions about life at BGM as well as an interview for an internship position for Tax Seasons 2025 and 2026.

To be eligible, students must:

Be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and working towards 150 credits
Be of Sophomore or Junior status
Be interested and eligible in a 2025 or 2026 Tax Season Internship
Be internally and academically motivated, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and abilities
Possess exemplary interpersonal skills

Participants:
Approximately 10-15 students from regional colleges and universities will be selected for this program through our various campus recruitment initiatives each fall and spring semester. BGM is seeking a creative and team-oriented Tax Associate to join our organization. This is an outstanding opportunity to develop your skills and experiences. You will prepare income tax returns, including individuals, corporations and partnerships for a variety of clients. Associates regularly collaborate with partners and managers to provide outstanding client service.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Proficiently prepare tax returns
Formulate and deliver innovative tax planning, strategy and client service
Identify and capitalize on business opportunities with our current client base and network to attract new clients to the firm
Maintain active communications with clients to develop longstanding business relationships, manage expectations, safeguard satisfaction and ensure deadlines are met
Work in a variety of industries including: real estate, construction, hospitality, manufacturing, distribution, not-for-profit and financial services
Advance your expertise in tax matters through continued education and research
Complete research and special projects as needed

Required Qualifications and Skills:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA
1 year previous Accounting experience, preferably in public accounting (previous internship experience can be included in this)
Current CPA or demonstrated progress towards obtaining CPA certification
An accounting internship experience preferred
Strong computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office programs
Experience with accounting software such as CCH Prosystems and/or GoFileRoom is a plus
High level of organization, focus, exceptional attention to detail, and strong follow-up skills
Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
Willingness to take supervision and guidance
Team management skills – the ability to coach, motivate, and direct a team of people
Team player with a positive “can-do” attitude
Creative problem-solving ability
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
